The change in seasons especially into cold winter months can be particularly hard on our skin. Because of this it may be necessary to change your product regimen up a bit. Keep reading for some tips from Melissa Thal Rhodes NP-C on how to take care of your skin in the winter.

Going into the winter months, what do you see people needing to add to their skincare routine?

It is common to need more moisture during the winter months so we see a lot of people including myself adding the Ona Hydrate hyaluronic serum. This serunot only contains hyaluronic acid which hydrates the skin from within but also is packed with peptides to build collagen and reduce wrinkles and fine lines. If skin is really dry or needing more repair the ZO Skin Health Hydrating Creme is great this time of year.

What services does Ona offer that are ideal for the winter months?

We see a lot of patients wanting to tackle their pigment left over from summer during the winter months. This is the perfect time to do laser treatments like IPL and Lase Ultra to target pigment and or deep peels like the ZO 3 step or Perfect Derma Peel. For dry irritated skin the CO2 lift treatment mask with a dermaplane is ideal which includes the use of carboxytherapy to increase oxygen in cells and hydrate internally

What treatment and product regimen have you seen work best together?

The winter is a great time for doing laser or peels for pigment or melasma (pregnancy mask). It is always a good idea to prep the skin and use medical grade products to reduce the pigment and turn those cells off that create excess pigment. For melasma a regimen of ZO pigment products and retinol, and for sun damage or pigment our Ona Koji pads are great and are super easy to add into your routine.

What should patients start NOW in order to be ready for the spring/summer?

Retinols are the best winter product. While they can be used year round, regular use definitely comes with some sun sensitivity so winter is a great time to be more aggressive with these products. Our medical skin care specialists can help you navigate any irritation and how to counteract that during this process. Another great winter treatment is coolsculpting. It will take a full 90 days to see the results so starting now can get you swimsuit ready by summer!
